We are interested in sharing the lessons learned in our change process with other educators who are aspiring to modernize their instructional practices. We will highlight the partnership needed behind the scenes among stakeholders to make this type of change. The shift to an inquiry-based math model is founded on the belief that all students should be able to access the knowledge and content of grade-level courses. Through discussion-based lessons, teachers provide facilitation to learners and students are valued and acknowledged for sharing thinking and perspectives, building skills in empathy and agency. Participants will engage as learners in discussions among colleagues to unpack their learning. Additionally, facilitators will share their knowledge of implementing a new instructional model through a visual presentation that includes Q & A with administrators and teacher leaders who have been a part of this project. Our third presenter, Dr. Patty Haynes is the Assistant Superintendent of Portsmouth,NH Schools. She is passionate about student growth and learning, and believes in the power of education to open doors and minds.
