Description
More and more people are finding their news on the internet and social media. This current generation of students rely heavily on the information they find through AI, Google Searches, and social media posts. If the future of research revolves around chatbots and instant answers, we need to prepare our students for this. Critical consumers are simply people who think critically about the information they are given. This session will explore the many ways that misinformation and bias can appear online. Participants will explore biased websites, explore AI bias, and discuss how algorithms play a role in finding information. Sample lessons and activities which teach students how to combat bias and identify credibility will be shared.
