Name
Going Beyond the Headlines in History
Date & Time
Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 2:45 PM - 3:40 PM
Description
Participants will learn how to use Massachusetts Libraries and Library of Congress digital archives for Historical/ELA Research to help them go beyond what they can find using just an AI search. The objective is to help teachers present full page newspapers and archival information which they can use to meet learning standards for ELA and History. An AI can't tell or show you what was in the Boston Globe 100 years ago but can help gather supplemental information which would do with your Digital Archive search. I would ask teachers how they would present certain historical events. ask them to do an AI search and see what they come up with and then show them newspapers from the digital archives I found. We would compare and contrast what we found. Then I would show them how the two tools would be used practically in the classroom with a project assignment and how to use AI as a research assistant in digital archive searches . We would also review digital literacy.
