Description
In our current world, where AI is becoming more heavily embedded in our day-to-day, it is easy to see the many benefits of these tools. Improving efficiency and productivity, making global connections and increasing accessibility ---- there are some incredible perks to using AI. However, as AI becomes more and more available, it is important to understand its limitations and potentially negative impacts. Bias in AI is evident and pervasive, yet many people are unaware that it even exists. This AI Playground session will offer opportunities for participants to explore how and why bias shows up in AI. There will be several hands-on activities that attendees can explore so that they can be guided through the process of identifying bias. Quick Draw and Semantris are two examples of games that will be used to show how AI data sets and output can be biased. There will be discussions about the types of bias that exist, how to spot bias in AI and how we can teach this in the classroom.
