Name
Digital Detectives: Solving Interactive Mysteries to Explore Digital Footprints
Date & Time
Thursday, October 17, 2024, 10:15 AM - 11:10 AM
Description
In this interactive space, educators will explore interactivities for students to explore the ways digital footprints can be used to make inferences about people and their actions in the context of solving mysteries In the first, students investigate fairytale characters to figure out who stole Jack’s cow after his beanstalk adventure. They use Instagram, Google searches, and Snapchat to rule out suspects and find the final culprit, with an interwoven original story. No prior knowledge of fairytales is required to participate in and engage with the activity In another activity, students investigate teachers in their school to determine who has been spamming the staff with “anonymous” prank emails. They use Google search histories, sent emails, and Google Drive activity to determine which staff member is behind it in a customizable mockup of the Google admin console. Participants will leave with all materials necessary to implement these highly engaging activities with their own students
