Name
Mindset, Language & Tinkering: Intentionally Slowing Down with AI
Date & Time
Thursday, October 17, 2024, 10:15 AM - 11:10 AM
Description
The public release of text generative AI impacted classroom assessment, challenging education. While initial reactions focused on developing guidelines for AI use, we're still grappling with the full implications of these technologies after nearly two years. This session aims to pause decision-making and instead explore language to guide discussions about AI. Through open play, educators can learn to manipulate AI, leading to more informed decisions. However, current AI tools present challenges. Consumer AI lacks needed guardrails & data privacy for students, while edu platforms predetermine use cases. Educators need open environments like PlayLab to build custom experiences & understand AI's potential in edu. By combining language with hands-on building, educators can shift their perspective on AI & grasp its potential. This allows for a deeper understanding of how AI can be effectively integrated, moving beyond initial concerns to potential problem solving with AI.
