This highly interactive session will begin with a critical inquiry into the role of GenAI tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, in civic life and civic engagement. This will engage participants in a deeply critical exploration of the civics of AI and the AI of civics. Then, the presenters will showcase 25 GenAI-enhanced learning plans based on the Massachusetts History & Social Science Curriculum Framework and the national Advanced Placement (AP) Civics and Government standards. These learning plans feature both an integration of GenAI tools and a critical examination of the role of these tools on society and citizenship. To wrap up, participants will be encouraged to use both the learning plans and GenAI tools to start to develop their own AI-enhanced learning plans to take back to their classrooms. Participants will leave with activities they can use right away with upper elementary, middle and high school students.
