Name
Rethinking Education in the Age of AI: Challenging Assumptions and Crafting a Future-Ready Curriculum
Date & Time
Thursday, October 17, 2024, 11:30 AM - 12:25 PM
Description
AI has the potential to upend many of our current educational ideas and structures. This session is designed to help educators think deeply about how and why traditional classroom practices should be examined. This Socratic-style seminar will be a back-and-forth between the presenters and attendees, posing more questions than answers, examining our deepest assumptions on what education should be. “How do I know if my students are cheating with AI tools?” becomes “How much AI use is appropriate and why? What is my writing assignment really trying to accomplish?” Topics: How do we know if a student learned something? Is writing still a valid way to measure learning? Do writing assignments for homework still make sense? How should we craft lessons, assignments, and projects with the knowledge that our students already use AI tools? How much of our reaction to AI is an attempt to maintain the status quo in classroom structures?
