What is the research out there about screen time and social media use by pre-teens and teenagers? What do teenagers think about their own screen use? Participants will learn directly from 8th graders and see their survey data, as well as all the research about tech and teens. You’ll also hear about the presenter’s own journey from minor book influencer to a more purposeful relationship with tech, as well as the value of sharing our own experiences with our students. We’ll discuss mental health, sleep, distraction, the importance of boredom, and how we can help kids and teens have more TRUE FUN. Participants will brainstorm strategies they can take back to their own communities to mentor and collaborate with students on their tech use. No more blaming and shaming! Come prepared to think critically and discuss ways we can help our students live full lives both on and off their devices.
