In today’s digital world, students are constantly exposed to online claims, AI-generated content, and viral misinformation. How can educators help them navigate what’s real and what’s not? Participants will step into the role of a Special Verification Unit (SVU) to explore the SIFT method: Stop, Investigate the source, Find better coverage, and Trace claims back to their origin. Students will share how they were introduced and practice the SIFT method in upper elementary classrooms, along with student perspectives and learning experiences. Attendees will engage in hands-on, student-tested activities such as a “Fact or Fake?” game show and real-world claim investigations that transform media literacy into an engaging, detective-style experience. Participants will leave with practical strategies, ready-to-use resources, and classroom ideas to empower students to think critically, verify information, and navigate an AI-driven information landscape with confidence.
