ClassDraft: A New Strategy to Engage Students (Without Losing the Learning)
Description

As classroom teachers, we’re always looking for new ways to engage students without turning every lesson into “just another app.” In this session, participants will explore ClassDraft, a classroom activity and teaching strategy created by current classroom teacher Donnie Piercey after more than two years of classroom testing and refinement. ClassDraft transforms review, discussion, categorization, and critical thinking into a live draft experience inspired by fantasy sports drafts and March Madness competitions. Participants will actively participate in a live classroom draft while exploring ways the strategy can support ELA, science, social studies, and mathematics instruction. Attendees will see classroom examples involving vocabulary words, historical figures, books, mathematical strategies, scientific concepts, and more while staying directly connected to standards and instructional goals.
