Enhance Language Learning with AI: Using Gemini Gems to Support English Learners
Description
English Learners benefit from multiple ways to access, practice, and demonstrate understanding. While strong teaching, modeling, discussion, authentic texts, and written practice remain essential, AI can add an interactive layer of support. In this session, participants will explore how Gemini Gems can reinforce vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, writing, academic discourse, and content-area language for multilingual learners in K–12 and college ESL settings. Participants will see Gems that help students unpack complex texts, practice grammar, build academic vocabulary, prepare for discussions, revise writing, and review content in student-friendly language. The session will also show how Gems can support teachers, tutors, and mentors with challenging language structures. Participants will leave with practical examples and prompt structures for creating responsible, privacy-conscious Gems that support language development while keeping educators at the center of instruction.
