AI Without Losing the Learning: Designing for Rigor, Access, and Thinking in the Age of AI
Description
As AI tools become more embedded in classrooms, many educators are unintentionally trading rigor for access by simplifying text, reducing cognitive demand, and limiting deep learning. This session reframes AI as a tool for expanding access without oversimplifying learning. Participants will engage in a hands-on exploration of how AI can support differentiation while preserving text complexity, critical thinking, and authentic student work. Grounded in cognitive science, UDL, and data-based decision-making, this session provides practical strategies educators can use immediately. Through real classroom examples and guided activities, participants will analyze AI-generated modifications for rigor vs. oversimplification, redesign tasks to maintain grade-level expectations, use AI to scaffold thinking, and align AI use with MTSS. Educators leave with ready-to-use templates, prompts, and protocols.
