Unlocking the Filing Cabinet: Empowering Academic Programming and School-Based Research
Description

Carroll School, an independent school for students with dyslexia, partners with Boston-area researchers to advance language-based education. In 2010, realizing a thriving graduate still faced processing speed and working memory bottlenecks, we asked: Could we do more? This sparked our Targeted Cognitive Intervention curriculum—an individualized, gamified program built on a diagnostic-prescriptive framework to strengthen cognitive capacities. To track outcomes and ensure fidelity, we built "The TCI Platform," a custom software that unlocked siloed data. It allows teachers to visualize longitudinal progress and compare group data to support differentiated lessons. Administratively, the platform enabled us to regularly evaluate, iterate, and drive curriculum development. Today, this accessibility empowers stakeholders, streamlines tasks, and transforms our relationship with researchers—giving us the agency to drive our own school-based studies and push the science of learning forward.
