“Wow. This Text Was Hard": Access, Academic Language, and Student Voice in the Age of AI
Description

“Wow… This Text Was Hard.” immerses participants in an intentionally inaccessible learning task that reflects challenges multilingual learners often face in classrooms. This interactive workshop explores practical AI-supported tools that increase accessibility, academic language development, and student participation without lowering rigor. Through demonstrations, classroom examples, and guided exploration, participants will experiment with tools including Diffit, Canva, NotebookLM, ChatGPT, and Suno to create more accessible and engaging learning experiences across content areas. Grounded in multilingual learner pedagogy and asset-based practices, the session focuses on using emerging technologies to support student voice, creativity, and meaningful participation in rigorous learning. Participants will leave with classroom-ready AI ideas, example prompts, accessibility strategies, multimodal learning examples, and implementation considerations.
