The AI-Powered Pencil: Redefining Feedback in the Era of Generative AI
Description

The rise of Generative AI and custom tutoring models presents a crucial challenge: How do we give meaningful feedback when students leverage AI for drafting and revision? This workshop is born out of an ongoing, in-the-classroom partnership—a collaborative effort between a technology integration specialist and classroom teacher. This workshop moves beyond detection to pedagogy, helping instructors redefine their feedback strategies. We will share our initial findings, roadblocks, and successful pivots as we work to redefine feedback. Participants will explore practical methods for assessing AI-assisted work, integrating AI tutors effectively, and focusing feedback on higher-order writing skills (critical thinking, argumentation, style) and leave with actionable techniques to transform AI from a hurdle into a powerful partner in the writing process.
