Every App You Assign: The Teacher's Role in Protecting Student Data
Description
Teachers are on the front lines of student data privacy, often without realizing it. Every app request, every new tool, every shortcut carries implications for data safety and student privacy. This session invites teachers to see themselves not as passive users of technology, but as active stewards of their students' data.
Participants will explore a practical, step-by-step process for evaluating new apps before introducing them in the classroom. The session will cover how to check for FERPA and COPPA compliance, what to look for in a privacy policy and Terms of Service, how to collect insight from trusted resources, and how to respond when a tool doesn't make the cut.
Rooted in real experience supporting teachers across a wide range of schools, this session offers concrete strategies, conversation starters for working with administrators, and a replicable workflow attendees can bring back to their schools immediately.
