This session will begin with participants engaging in a quick prompt writing activity to test their prompt writing skills and knowledge. Then, the presenters will showcase examples of how and why prompt writing makes a crucial difference to the kinds of information AI tools generate. Next, the presenters will introduce participants to multiple field-tested prompt writing frameworks and encourage the participants to revise some commonly used prompts using those frameworks. Finally, the presenters will provide the participants with more than 20 self-designed prompts to support higher-order thinking and learning. The participants will try out these prompts and remix them to meet their immediate needs. By the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) Identify 1 or more prompting framework to improve their prompt writing; 2) Explain why and how prompt writing matters; and 3) Write or remix a prompt to support students’ higher-order thinking and learning.
