Bringing Stories to Life: Old-School Radio Dramas in the Elementary Classroom
Description
What if students approached writing the same way listeners approach a great podcast, unable to wait to hear what happens next? In this session, participants will explore how podcasting and old-school radio dramas can transform student storytelling, writing, creativity, and collaboration in elementary and middle school classrooms. Using examples from Peabody Award-winning podcasts along with authentic classroom examples created by elementary students, attendees will learn practical strategies for guiding students through the process of creating original audio dramas, including brainstorming ideas, script writing, voice acting, recording, editing, and adding sound effects. Participants will collaborate to create a short audio drama scene while exploring ways podcasting projects can support ELA standards, SEL, and student engagement.
