The emergence of AI in schools has marked a significant shift in the field of education. With the recent developments in generative AI and large language models (like ChatGPT), educators and the education community have increasingly elevated both the opportunities for innovation in teaching and learning as well as the associated risks and concerns. DESE understands that many schools and districts across the Commonwealth have begun exploring the integration of these emerging AI tools into schools, which has raised many questions related to the safety, equity, and ethical use of these complex tools. As such, the Office of Edtech with colleagues from additional offices is kicking off K-12 AI Taskforce. Join members of the Office of Educational Technology and members of our Center for Instructional Support in this listening session where you can voice your support, suggestions, and concerns for ways the Department can support the safe, ethical, and effective use of AI in K-12 education.
