Description
Children are naturally curious, but inquiry skills needed to ask the right questions must be developed. In the digital age, information is at our fingertips, but students must learn how to ask the right questions as they investigate a topic in order to get the right information--and to drive their own learning further. Inquiry-based learning activities guide students to ask questions, investigate a topic, and synthesize their learning, while developing valuable 21st century skills that transfer across content areas. In this session I will model easy-to-implement inquiry-based learning strategies that utilize digital media from student-friendly websites and databases such as Discovery Education, Newsela, and PebbleGo. Inquiry - and curiosity - drive innovation. New questions need to be asked and new ideas need to be explored. We have the tools to prepare our students to ask “What if…?” and change the world.
