Dr. Heather Smith is the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for Dedham Public Schools, where she has served in a variety of instructional leadership roles since 2017. With more than 20 years of experience in education, she has worked as a district leader, elementary principal and assistant principal, English Language Arts teacher, and university instructor.

Throughout her career, Dr. Smith has focused on strengthening curriculum and instruction, supporting educator growth, and creating meaningful learning experiences for students. In Dedham, her leadership has included districtwide curriculum development and improvement initiatives designed to bring educators, students, and families into the process. She also serves on the Modern Language Association’s Committee on K–16 Alliances.

Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate in Education from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University, a Master of Education from Rhode Island College, and a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College. Outside of education, she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and making pottery.
